3.1 Identify potential funding sources
Project funding can be derived from a range of sources including:
  • state and federal government departments
  • corporate sector sponsoring (local, state and national)
  • trusts and foundations
  • Donations from the community (please check in your state for ATO requirements and state legislation)
Contact relevant sources to determine their requirements for making application for funding
3.2 Apply for project funding

In most instances funding for projects will require a written application. If this is the case, liaise closely with the funding body to ensure that all their criteria has been addressed and that the timeframes are clear to ensure the application makes its required deadline.

A written application will usually require information such as:
  • information about your organisation and its legal and tax status (i.e. whether incorporated and ABN number).
  • Contact people
  • Management structure
  • Current financial records (audited)
  • An outline of the project proposal and identified need being met
  • A budget for the project
It should be noted that many funding bodies often have stringent accountability requirements and frequent documented reporting may be stipulated.
An example of a funding submission can be located in the ‘Staying Strong’ project information.
Additional funding for projects can sometimes be obtained from corporate sponsorships. These can be both rewarding and challenging. Time may be needed to build rapport with businesses, but if there is a mutually beneficial outcome to be achieved, the results can be greatly enhanced.
